1. What is an Engine Hood Hinge (Bonnet Hinge)?
An Engine Hood Hinge is a precision mechanical assembly that connects the vehicle's hood (bonnet) to the body frame. It enables the controlled opening and closing of the hood for engine access while ensuring proper alignment, stability, and safety throughout the vehicle's lifecycle. This component is critical for vehicle serviceability and pedestrian safety compliance.
2. What types of hood hinges do you manufacture?
We produce a comprehensive range for global vehicle platforms:
Conventional Steel Hinges: Single or multi-link designs with stamped steel arms.
Gas Strut-Assisted Hinges: Integrated mounting points for gas lift supports.
Aluminum/Lightweight Hinges: For weight reduction in modern vehicles.
Active Pedestrian Safety Hinges: Designed to deform in a controlled manner upon impact.
Heavy-Duty Hinges: For commercial vehicles, trucks, and SUVs.
Custom OEM Designs: Tailored to specific vehicle architecture and packaging requirements.
3. What materials are used in your hinges?
We select materials based on performance, weight, and cost targets:
Hinge Arms: High-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel (e.g., SAPH440, CR4), aluminum alloys (e.g., 6061-T6, 5754), or advanced composites (on request).
Pivot Pins & Bushings: Case-hardened steel pins with self-lubricating polymer (POM, PTFE) or bronze bushings.
Mounting Brackets: Stamped steel with reinforced ribs.
Fasteners: Grade 8.8 or higher, often with thread-locking features.
Corrosion Protection: Multi-stage process: Zinc phosphate pretreatment + Cathodic E-coat + Powder topcoat (up to 1,000 hours salt spray resistance).
4. What information do I need to provide for a quotation?
Please provide as much of the following as possible:
Target Vehicle/Platform (OEM, model, year).
3D Data (STEP, IGES, CATPart) and 2D Drawings with GD&T.
Technical Specifications: Material, coating, performance requirements (cycle life, load).
Annual Volume Forecast.
Any specific regulatory or OEM standards to meet.
5. Are your hinges compatible with gas struts (lift supports)?
Yes. We design and test hinges specifically for gas strut applications:
Reinforced mounting tabs with precisely located ball stud sockets.
Strength validation for the additional torsional loads imposed by struts.
Kinematic analysis to ensure smooth opening/closing arc and proper strut force throughout the travel.
6. How do you handle logistics for global OEM customers?
We have established logistics partnerships for:
Milk-run collections from our factory.
Container and Ro-Ro shipments.
EDI integration for advanced shipping notifications (ASN) and inventory management.
Overseas warehouse support in key markets (Europe, North America) upon request.
7. Can you provide hinges for pedestrian safety systems?
Yes. We engineer Active Hood Hinge Systems that include:
Pyrotechnic or Mechanical Actuators: To lift the rear of the hood upon pedestrian impact.
Controlled Deformation Zones: In the hinge arms to absorb energy.
Full-system validation per relevant regulations (Euro NCAP, GTR No.9, etc.).
8.What is your MOQ and lead time for production?
Aftermarket (Specific Model): MOQ 1,000 pairs; Lead time 40-50 days.
OEM Program: Project-based MOQ; Tooling lead time: 60-90 days, Production lead time: 30-45 days after SOP.
Samples (from existing tooling): 15-20 days.
